Job Overview

We are a dynamic team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, dedicated to providing exceptional care to our patients. As a Staff Nurse, you will play a vital role in our Oncology Service, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care to meet patients' needs, adhering to local and national standards and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Support and provide patient education and health promotion, empowering patients to take control of their care.
  • Deliver and coordinate care, delegating and supervising duties carried out by junior staff, ensuring seamless care.
  • Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety, and security legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Contribute to setting, monitoring, and maintaining standards of care, improving the patient experience and outcome of care.
  • Communicate relevant information to the multidisciplinary team and external organizations, ensuring seamless care.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation.
  • Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team, and organization.
  • Promote equality in care and practice, recognizing, respecting, and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
  • Ensure the environment of care is safe, well-equipped, and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Participate in education and training of junior staff, contributing to their professional development.
  • Maintain and develop own professional competence, seeking to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within the scope of role and professional practice.
  • Engage with Trust-wide or local changes and developments in nursing practice, e.g., intentional rounding, alcohol screening.
Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Willingness to expand clinical role, e.g., IV additives, venepuncture, and cannulation.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its relevance to practice.
  • Demonstrated competency during internship.
  • Awareness of changes within Nursing practice.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Education

  • Appropriate NMC Registration.
  • Diploma in Nursing.
  • NMC recognized Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards following 18 months commencement in post.
  • RN1, RN2 General Nursing Posts.
  • Evidence of continuing education or development for more experienced Band 5 nurses.
