About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant General Surgeon to join our dynamic team at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for providing senior clinician services to both the Emergency Department and the General Surgery Department.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide senior clinician services to both the Emergency Department and the General Surgery Department as per job plan or as agreed within the Trust, and as required when on call.
- Work with consultant colleagues and nursing staff to ensure efficient use of Trust's resources and contribute actively to clinical governance in the department and to development of quality enhancement projects in the unit.
- Provide senior clinician services to area of special interest as per the job plan or as agreed within the Trust.
- Show flexibility and undertake different appropriate clinical tasks within allocated DCC sessions at the request of the clinical manager, as the need arises.
- Actively participate in the Unit's Teaching Programme and undertake supervision, teaching and training of medical trainees and other multi-professional staff, in line with guidance from the relevant Royal Colleges or specialty bodies.
- Actively participate in clinical guidelines development, audit and CPD.

Person Specification
Essential
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (via CCT, CESR or European Community Rights) or eligible within 6 months.
Desirable
- Leadership and Management qualification.
- Postgraduate degree or MSc in relevant specialty.
Relevant Experience
Essential
- Substantial experience in Emergency General Surgery.
- Experienced in emergency general laparoscopic surgery, including hot gallbladder surgery and colorectal Surgery.
- JAG accreditation in Colonoscopy with advanced endoscopy techniques.
Desirable
- Specialist interest complementary to existing services.
- Experience of TAMIS.
- Stapled haemorroidopexy/HALO.
- Endometriosis surgery.
