Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and ambitious Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of mechanical design solutions in a multi-disciplinary environment. This involves taking the lead in load calculation and stress analysis and being the Technical Lead for designated projects.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operate primarily as a senior level Design Engineer in the mechanical design of wind tunnel test subjects in accordance with customer specifications.
  2. Carry out design activities with minimal direction from the Design Team Leader, working within budget and to project schedule.
  3. Be a technical authority on stress analysis and load calculation.
  4. Deliver written reports on the above.
  5. Facilitate effective communication with key stakeholders and manage expectations across the business.
  6. Be the technical lead for projects as required.
  7. Maintain a close working relationship with the Project Manager and all other key stakeholders within the project.
  8. Contribute to developing, improving, and maintaining the skills and capabilities of the design team to be considered world-class by its customer base.
Requirements
  1. A 2.1 or above in a relevant Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  2. Relevant prior experience working as the Technical Lead in a project-based environment.
  3. Knowledge of design for manufacture.
  4. Demonstrable problem-solving ability in a logical, competent, and timely manner.
  5. A desire to succeed, see those around them be successful, and be driven by continuous improvement.
  6. Knowledge of relevant software packages, preferably Catia, Isight, Matlab, Abacus, and other FEA.
  7. Some commercial awareness and client relationship experience.
  8. Ideally, experience of Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing processes.
Security Clearance

The successful candidate must satisfy security clearance requirements, including the last 5 years of continual UK residency.
