Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Data Quality Analyst - Clinical Coding to join our team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

About the Opportunity

This exciting opportunity has become available within our Clinical Coding department for a motivated individual to support comprehensive, high-quality clinical coding of inpatients and day cases for a wide range of specialties. The successful candidate will assist the Clinical Coding Service Manager and the Clinical Coding Auditor and Trainer in acting as a point of reference for clinicians and other staff groups throughout the service lines.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent organisational skills, the ability to analyse and extract data from spreadsheets, great problem-solving skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office packages, and effective communication skills.

Main Responsibilities
  • To carry out weekly/monthly reviews of clinically coded activity against the patient health record for specified HSMR conditions to support mortality benchmarking and reporting.
  • Identify and extract missing information for specific chronic conditions documented in previous but not in current spell and liaise with clinicians for the sign off for clinical coding data quality.
  • Monitor the overall accuracy of the electronic sources and have involvement in electronic patient record (Epic) from a clinical coding perspective and raise concerns as appropriate.
  • Completion of proformas for sign off by clinicians and ensuring the updating of clinical coding where necessary.
  • Review clinical coded data against health record and other data sources ie CT scans looking for missing specific chronic co-morbidity information.
  • Responsible for raising and completing clinical coding data queries where missing specific chronic co-morbidity information is identified, and liaise with clinicians for sign off where necessary.
  • Review regular inconsistency report for missing specific chronic co-morbidities previously coded against activity and complete clinical coding data query where necessary.
  • Conduct regular data validation and monitoring report activities to ensure that the Trust achieves a high level of data accuracy, quality, and completeness for both mandatory data submissions and financial reimbursement.
  • Ensure review, sign off of clinical coding data queries and clinical coding is updated by relevant coding analyst within deadlines.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of reviewed data and queries raised via Excel spreadsheets.
  • Deal with general telephone enquiries.
  • Regularly report to the Clinical Coding Service Manager and/or Clinical Coding Auditor on work carried out and to meet performance standards set by the Clinical Coding Service Manager.
  • Assist in the development of and adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
Requirements

The following qualifications and experience are essential:

  • Minimum of 2 GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Administration or equivalent experience to this level gained through vocational experience.

The following qualifications and experience are desirable:

  • Qualification in human biology, medical terminology and/or anatomy knowledge.
  • ECDL or equivalent IT qualification.
Working Environment

You will be working in a fast-paced environment with opportunities to develop your skills and expertise in clinical coding.

The salary for this role is £30,000 per annum.
