We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Science Technician to join our team at Harris Academy Morden. As a key member of our science department, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory facilities and providing exceptional support to our teaching staff.
Main Responsibilities- Equipment Management: Ensure all equipment is prepared to meet the specifications of our teaching staff, and maintain a high level of organization and cleanliness in the laboratory.
- Logistics and Supply Chain: Organize the preparation, repair, cleaning, transport, and collection of equipment and materials, ensuring timely delivery and minimal disruption to our teaching schedule.
- Practical Lesson Support: Assist and support teaching staff in practical lessons and enrichment activities, providing expert guidance and ensuring the safety of students and staff.
- Schemes of Work and Syllabi: Develop a deep understanding of our science schemes of work and syllabi to prepare for practical lessons and ensure seamless integration with our teaching staff.
- Stock Management: Prepare and manage stock orders, ensuring accurate inventory and minimal waste.
- General Administration: Provide administrative support to our science department, including record-keeping, data entry, and other tasks as required.
- Health and Safety: Ensure full implementation of health and safety regulations, including conducting risk assessments and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Waste Management: Organize the safe and secure disposal of hazardous waste, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular safety checks on equipment and record faults and action taken, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Resource Development: Assist in the development of appropriate resources, schemes of work, and teaching strategies in the subject area, ensuring alignment with our academy's goals and objectives.
- Team Management: Manage the allocation of work across the technician team, ensuring an appropriate quality of work and arranging training, appraisal, and performance management.
- Classroom Support: Assist and advise teaching staff on the preparation and layout of classrooms for practical exercises, undertaking demonstrations, and helping students with learning activities as required.
- Resource Maintenance: Ensure the safety, repair, and general maintenance of all resources, equipment, and tools, advising when any maintenance or inspection is beyond your competence.
- Animal and Plant Care: Ensure the welfare and care of plants and animals in the science area, and the security of equipment.
- Special Equipment: Make up special equipment or modify existing equipment as necessary from sketches or instructions supplied by our science teaching staff.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Possess excellent numeracy, literacy, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with teaching staff, students, and other stakeholders.
- Experience and Qualifications: Have experience of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and working on one's own initiative and as part of a team. Evidence of relevant qualifications and further training is essential.
- Health and Safety Knowledge: Possess knowledge of appropriate health and safety regulations and procedures, with the ability to implement and maintain a safe working environment.
