Data Science and Engineering Manager Job

At Sanderson, we are seeking a Data Science and Engineering Manager to lead our IoT Data Specialists team. This role involves collaborating with IoT Specialists and business stakeholders to prototype and deliver IoT data proof-of-value agile experiments, manage larger projects, and maintain live systems both on-premise and in the cloud.

Responsibilities:
  • Leadership in Data Evaluation: Lead the evaluation and review of data engineering and data science methods, tools, and standards within the organisation.
  • Testing Oversight: Plan, design, and conduct unit tests on models and algorithms, collaborating with the QA team to correct defects and achieve error-free results.
  • Performance Testing: Lead the planning and execution of performance and usability tests to ensure solutions are effective and user-friendly.
  • Technical Specification Review: Review technical specifications from suppliers and IT partners to maintain expected quality standards.
  • Standards Maintenance: Collaborate with Technical and Solution Architects to establish and uphold standards, patterns, and designs.
  • Solution Development: Design, code, test, and document data solutions for Sanderson, adhering to established techniques and standards.
  • Data Security Compliance: Ensure model and algorithm development complies with company security standards, minimising data security risks.
  • Team Development: Support team member growth through check-ins and line management responsibilities as outlined by the business.

Requirements:

  • Previous role in a lead position within a data engineering or data science team, demonstrating a strong technical skill set.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration with technical colleagues, IT partners, and consultants, both on-site and remotely.
  • Experience with the complete development lifecycle, including design, development, deployment, and debugging.
  • Advanced knowledge of Azure Data development, including Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and ADX; familiarity with Databricks, Logic Apps, and the Power Platform.
  • Knowledge of machine learning methods (e.g., clustering, decision trees, neural networks) and their real-world applications.
  • Understanding of advanced statistical concepts (e.g., regression, distributions, statistical tests).
  • Proficient in advanced coding with Python.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., CosmosDB, Cassandra).
  • Knowledge of testing techniques for planning and executing tests (both functional and non-functional).
