Job Summary

The Principal Auditor will support the Head of Assurance and Audit Manager in delivering the Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Plans. This role requires a strong understanding of risk management and governance processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head of Assurance and Audit Manager in providing assurance on the effectiveness of the Council's systems of internal control.
  • Work closely with senior management to agree improvements to the ways in which the Council operates.
  • Research, plan, and prepare draft terms of reference for audit assignments.
  • Plan and conduct audit work efficiently and effectively.
  • Undertake follow-up reviews of audits with limited assurance audit opinion.
  • Identify and address risks, ensuring that controls adequately address them.
  • Develop and encourage clear channels of communication with clients throughout the conduct of audit engagements.
  • Contribute to discussions of findings with Heads of Service Directors and agree Management Action Plans for the implementation of recommendations.
  • Report significant risk or governance issues arising from audits undertaken.
  • Adhere to Public Sector Internal Auditing Standards and the Council's policies on diversity, equal opportunities, and health and safety.
Requirements
  • Certified Internal Auditor (IIA) or equivalent.
  • Part qualified or part qualified and studying for a CCAB recognised qualification.
  • Relevant degree and significant relevant experience.
Additional Information

This position is located in South London and offers hybrid working arrangements.
