SEN Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and caring SEN Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Portsmouth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to students with special educational needs, helping them to achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with teachers to adapt lessons and resources to meet the needs of students with SEN.
  • Support students in managing their behavior, emotional, and social development, promoting a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Assist students with personal care or mobility needs, as required.
  • Encourage students to engage in learning activities, building their self-confidence and self-esteem.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, working closely with the SENCO and teaching staff.
  • Develop positive relationships with students, staff, and parents, ensuring a collaborative approach to student support.
Requirements:
  • Experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role within a secondary school setting.
  • A relevant qualification, such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with young people, particularly those with special educational needs.
  • A strong understanding of the needs of students with SEN, including autism, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices, with an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
