Job Title: Mobile Area Technician

First Bus is seeking a highly skilled Mobile Area Technician to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing complex technical issues on our fleet of buses.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of engines, diagnostic equipment, and its applications. You will be working closely with our engineers and other grades to ensure the reliability of our Public Service Vehicles.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair complex technical issues on our fleet of buses.
  • Assist sites with long-term/heavy work to reduce reliance on external contractors.
  • Carry out diagnostic tests on a wide range of company vehicles and equipment.
  • Advise the Engineering Manager on technical issues within the garage.
  • Draft reports on the performance and failure of engines, gearboxes, axles, electrics for the Engineering Director.
  • Carry out projects/trials on behalf of the Engineering Director.
  • Develop and foster good working relationships with engineers and other grades.

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum qualification of NVQ3 standard, with a view to being trained to level 4.
  • Comprehensive understanding of engines, diagnostic equipment, and its applications.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of major components fitted to Company fleet.
  • Full understanding/appreciation of the terms and condition of the Company Operating Licence.
  • Willingness to adapt and update skills and attend training courses.

  • Flexibility to change priorities and resources quickly to meet the needs of the garage.

  • Works to understand customer needs to meet and exceed expectations.

Hours of Work:

  • The Master Technician will be required to work a range of shifts in line with the particular needs of the garages.
  • The working week runs from Sunday to Saturday and comprises of 39 hours, rest days will be rostered each week. Rosters may include some weekend and bank holiday work where required.
