About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Open University's Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies (WELS) as a Lecturer in English for a fixed-term contract of 12 months. The successful candidate will be part of the Taught Postgraduate in Education Team situated in the School of Education, Childhood & Youth and Sports (ECYS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of modules and resources in the MA Education, particularly in the specialisms of Inclusive Practice and Learning and Teaching.
  • Participate in WELS Faculty research and scholarship, with opportunities to contribute to the development of new modules and resources.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan, prepare, and update distance learning online modules, incorporating innovative online digital pedagogy.
  • Contribute to decisions about curriculum, teaching, and assessment strategies, taking into account policies within each of the four UK nations.
  • Support the briefing, debriefing, and training of teaching staff (Associate Lecturers).
  • Maintain relevant modules, including preparing tutor-marked assignments, monitoring of assessments, and membership of Examination and Qualification Boards.
  • Demonstrate potential to contribute to the research/scholarship of the faculty in accordance with strategy priorities, including possible submission in the next Research Excellence Framework (REF).
Requirements
  • Doctorate degree (or working towards) in Education or a related field.
  • Knowledge and experience necessary to contribute to the development, updating, and production of modules in the MA Education.
  • Relevant experience of HE teaching in a relevant subject and module design that engages and retains students.
  • Demonstrable experience of having used multi-media technology for learning and teaching, and evidence of understanding of the potential of new and emerging technologies to enhance learning at PG and UG level.
  • Ability to engage in research and scholarship through activities such as publications and/or widely recognised and disseminated contributions to learning and teaching in the field of PG Education.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes, and to The Open University in Milton Keynes.
  • A strong commitment to excellence in inclusive learning and teaching for a diverse student population.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English, with the capacity to communicate clearly with individuals and groups of varying sizes.
  • Recognised qualification related to teaching (or working towards).
  • Qualification for teaching in a Higher Education context.
  • Higher education teaching experience including creating and marking assessments.
What We Offer

The Open University UK offers a competitive salary range of £45,585 to £46,974 per annum, with potential progression to £54,395 per annum. We also offer a hybrid working pattern, allowing for flexibility and work-life balance. As a Lecturer in English, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative online digital pedagogy and engage in research and scholarship that aligns with the faculty's strategy priorities.
