About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pupil Support Assistant to join our team at a welcoming school in Christchurch. As a Pupil Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualised support plans for students with SEND, SEMH, and ASD, assessing each student's unique needs and abilities, and setting specific goals.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support tailored to students' needs, ensuring they receive the attention and assistance they need to succeed.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting support strategies as necessary to ensure that each student is progressing towards their goals.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to each student's education and well-being, sharing insights and strategies to support their development.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported, encouraging positive interactions and a sense of community.
  • Use a variety of support methods to engage and motivate students, catering to different learning styles and preferences, and making learning enjoyable and effective.
  • Keep detailed records of each student's progress, including assessments, observations, and feedback, and communicate this information to parents, support staff, and other relevant parties to ensure transparency and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Prior experience in supporting students with special educational needs is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills are crucial for effectively interacting with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering positive relationships.
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain strong, supportive relationships with all members of the school community, creating a positive and collaborative environment.
  • Show a deep commitment to helping students with SEND, SEMH, and ASD, exhibiting patience and empathy in interactions.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special education (desirable but not essential).
