Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team and contribute to the development of next-generation laser technologies for advanced materials. This exciting opportunity is part of a collaborative research project between the University of Nottingham and the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). As a researcher, you will work closely with experts in the field to design, simulate, and develop innovative solutions for high-power laser processing.

About the Project

The aim of this project is to advance the next generation of laser technologies by building on current knowledge and expertise. You will focus on the design, simulation, and development of a novel co-axial water-mist nozzle for high-power laser applications. The nozzle will be integrated into an experimental test rig to evaluate and demonstrate its performance on various advanced and challenging materials. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques will be employed to analyse experimental data, enabling deeper insights and faster optimisation of the nozzle design/performance.

Your Responsibilities
  • Design, simulate, and develop a novel co-axial water-mist nozzle for high-power laser applications;
  • Integrate the nozzle into an experimental test rig and evaluate its performance on various advanced and challenging materials;
  • Analyse experimental data using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques to optimise the nozzle design/performance;
