Automation Engineer Trainee Role

The Automation Engineer Trainee role offers an exceptional opportunity for individuals to develop their skills in automation engineering maintenance. With our comprehensive training program, you will gain hands-on experience working on various projects within the RME team.

As a trainee, you will receive classroom training and workshops hosted off-site, Amazon's on-the-job training program, and mentorship from our experienced automation engineers. Alongside technical skills development, you will also grow your abilities in organisational, prioritisation, and communication skills.

Your journey will begin with full-time residential (classroom) training at one of our training provider facilities. You may be required to work away from home during term time, with costs supported by Amazon. Subsequent years will involve block release training at our training providers, culminating in a substantial work-based project and a BSc degree. Throughout, you will undergo PLC programming training on block release.

Upon completing the apprenticeship, you will be eligible to apply for Automation Engineering roles within the RME team. The role requires:

  • Lived in the UK or EEA, or British overseas territory for 3 years or more prior to commencing the apprenticeship
  • Residency in the UK throughout the program
  • No registration on a UK government-funded course ending August 2025 or later
  • Age 18 or older before entering an Amazon building
  • Three A levels (or equivalent) at C or above in Mathematics, IT, Physics, or an Engineering related subject, OR a BTEC level 3 engineering qualification of 180 credits including further mathematics and 5 GCSE's at grade 1-4
  • A deep interest in automation engineering and strong willingness to learn
  • A desire to learn practical workshop/tool usage skills
  • English language proficiency, ability to interact comfortably with colleagues
  • Adherence to guidelines and instructions to deliver results and meet deadlines
  • A hands-on, flexible, and proactive approach
  • Excellent customer-facing skills and ability to deliver impeccable customer service
  • Ability to seek and respond to feedback
  • Experience (or willingness to learn and practice) working to health & safety standards and regulations
  • Flexibility in working hours and shift patterns

Please note that if you hold a higher degree or are studying towards one in the same field, you are not eligible for this apprenticeship.
