Porterbrook is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Auditor to join its Risk, Quality and Assurance function. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing external audits and in-process inspections at Train Operating Companies and suppliers, and will work closely with the Audit Manager to ensure the delivery of high-quality audit reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct external audits and in-process inspections at TOCs and suppliers
  • Lead/participate in preliminary assessments, audits, QA project work and follow-up visits to close Corrective Action Requests (CARs)
  • Produce high-quality audit reports and identify required actions and/or good working practices
  • Support the Audit Manager with tendering, negotiating and procurement of audit services from third-party providers
  • Represent the company in a professional manner at supplier locations
  • Assist with Quality Management System (QMS) and Safety Management System (SMS) matters, particularly where audits have detected weaknesses or highlighted areas of improvement
  • Support the development of Porterbrook's Business Management System
  • Support RISAS accreditation and participate in re-accreditation audits as required
  • Act as subject matter expert on the IT audit fieldwork system
  • Support continuous improvement activities at Porterbrook's Long Marston site

Requirements

  • Practical experience in a rail depot, overhaul works or similar manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to audit process compliance and identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Ability to plan effectively, oversee and manage tasks and external suppliers
  • Ability to work with auditees when deficiencies have been identified, playing a key role in developing them to an acceptable standard
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-sufficiency and self-motivation
  • Ability to assess vehicle condition and report significant defects
  • Experience of railway operations (desirable)

Qualifications

  • Degree-level education or HNC/HND in an engineering discipline or relevant industry experience
  • Registered Lead Auditor

Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Quality systems, including ISO 9001:2015
  • Knowledge of build, inspection, test and maintenance processes within the rail industry or similar manufacturing environment
  • Organised, methodical approach with attention to detail
  • Knowledge and understanding of RISAS (desirable)
