Electrical Design Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team at Trant Engineering Limited. As a key member of our design studio, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of electrical design, from project initiation to completion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage project-specific design deliverables, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Carry out design in accordance with M&E Design QA Procedures, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
  • Responsible for the detailed design of electrical systems, including optioneering and feasibility studies.
  • Interpret and understand client requirements from client documents, ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, external design resources, and subcontractors to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Conduct site surveys of existing assets, gathering data for design purposes.
  • Assist with tender pricing, providing accurate estimates for electrical design services.
  • Produce procurement specifications for electrical equipment and detailed design construction drawings.
  • Project manage third-party designs, providing design assistance to installation and commissioning teams.
  • Review vendor data and drawings for all electrical equipment and package plant, ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Manage internal and external project-specific design costs in liaison with the Project Manager.
  • Undertake and check design calculations, including modeling of the complete power system (AMTECH).
  • Prepare drawings for CAD production, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Assist in the development of process control philosophies with the Process Engineer and suppliers.
  • Produce electrical scope and works enquiry submission documents.
  • Estimate material and labour costs, providing accurate financial information.
  • Undertake design risk assessments to support detailed design proposals.
  • Prepare detailed electrical specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Produce single-line and block cable diagrams, load schedules, equipment specifications, cable schedules, equipment schedules, telemetry schedules, instrument schedules, and I/O listings.
  • Record and document all design changes through to completion and issue of 'As Built' documents.
  • Liaise with clients and subcontractors, ensuring effective communication and project success.
Requirements:
  • An appropriate electrical qualification or by experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous.
