Part Time SEN Teaching Assistant

Empowering Learning is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team in a mainstream school based in the central Derby area. The successful candidate will work in the school's SEN unit, supporting pupils with special educational needs.

The role will involve leading academic interventions with children working below age expected levels, working on a 1:1 basis with children who present with autism, and providing pastoral support to children with social and emotional needs. The ideal candidate will have previous experience of supporting SEN pupils, a TA qualification or a relevant degree, and excellent communication skills to liaise with staff and pupils.

Main Duties:

  • Leading academic interventions with children working below age expected levels
  • Working on a 1:1 basis with children who present with autism
  • Supporting pupils in and out of class who present with special educational needs
  • Liaising with the school SENCO and the class teacher around the progress of pupils
  • Providing pastoral support to children with social and emotional needs
  • Working across EYFS with children working below age expected levels

Requirements:

  • Previous experience of supporting SEN pupils
  • At least one year's school-based experience
  • TA qualification or a relevant degree
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with staff and pupils
