Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Nurse to join our Plastic Surgery team at Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care and providing leadership and guidance to junior staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty, working as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver individualized and personalized direct patient care.
  • Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, including history taking, physical examination, and requesting diagnostic procedures and clinical investigations.
  • Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication, including transfusion of blood and blood products.
  • Assess and recognize emergencies in the specialty, interpreting information and taking appropriate action, and leading others to do the same.
  • Act as an advocate for patients within the department, ensuring a patient-oriented approach to the delivery of care and meeting standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
  • Ensure patients receive high-quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs, and doctrines.
  • Recognize and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of individuals.
  • Provide leadership, support, and guidance to staff in monitoring the planning, delivery, and evaluation of individualized care.
  • Be wholly accountable for practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct and take every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence.
  • Ensure safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advanced clinical skills and responsible for carrying out specialist nursing procedures.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and other staff within the clinical environment.
  • Ensure sensitive patient records are stored appropriately.
  • Recognize and accommodate the cultural and spiritual needs of patients within available resources.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with a valid NMC registration.
  • Experience in plastic surgery or a related specialty.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent clinical skills and knowledge of plastic surgery procedures.
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to junior staff.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
