Senior Financial Manager - Corporate and Reporting

Job Summary
The Senior Financial Manager - corporate and reporting is a key senior role within the North West regional finance team, leading a high-quality internal finance function for the region. This role will provide the successful candidate with insight into how NHS England works and the key challenges facing the NHS in the North West. You will work with a fantastic team, in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

Main Duties of the Job
The Senior Financial Manager will lead on budget setting, and in-year financial management for the regional office's c. £80m annual budget. In addition to these core responsibilities, the Senior Financial Manager will make a broader contribution to the delivery of the operational finance team's objectives, supporting additional reporting around the overall NHS financial performance in the region, capital and/or other specific pieces of work as required.

The successful candidate will have significant experience of budget setting and financial reporting. They will be able to build strong relationships across the organisation and will be confident in all aspects of managing the team. They will be able to work with a high degree of autonomy, including making judgements and decisions with limited supervision. They will have highly developed communication skills (both written and verbal), able to simplify complex issues. The successful candidate will have a strong sense of integrity and a commitment to developing the team.

Job Responsibilities
The Senior Financial Manager will work closely with the national central financial management team, regional executives and budget holders and other regional colleagues to ensure appropriate and affordable budgets are set, that these are effectively managed, and that financial performance is reported clearly and accurately, including the management of financial risks. The Senior Financial Manager will represent the Director of Operational Finance in relevant internal forums including the internal operations committee. The Senior Financial Manager will work closely with the Deputy Directors of Operational Finance to ensure that the two teams work well together, supporting the overall objectives for the Operational Finance directorate and the development of both teams.

  • CCAB qualified with extensive experience and full up to date membership of a professional body.
  • Evidence of post qualifying continuing professional development.
  • Educated to Masters' degree level in a relevant discipline, or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • In-depth additional expert knowledge acquired over a significant period of time in the following area(s): Financial management including budget setting and forecasting. Financial reporting. Core financial systems and processes.
  • Subject matter expertise across a number of key areas relating to budget setting, financial management, financial reporting, financial governance and assurance.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing and prioritising a large budget with solid working knowledge of financial process requirements.

  • Ability to provide and receive, convey and present highly complex, sensitive and/or contentious information to large groups, responding openly to questions to ensure full understanding and engagement.
