About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join our team at Splash Damage, a leading game development studio. As a key member of our backend feature teams, you will be responsible for designing and implementing high-performance cloud-based backend services that power our award-winning live-service multiplayer games.

As a senior engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including online services, design, gameplay, and UI, to create scalable and reliable backend services that drive game features such as player accounts, inventories, game sessions, social features, and more.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-performance cloud-based backend services using Go and associated technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Take ownership of features and lead their development from conception to completion.
  • Write clear, maintainable, and reliable code and documentation.

Requirements and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Proficiency in Go and associated technologies.
  • Proven experience as a backend engineer, with a strong track record of designing and implementing systems for high-traffic environments.
  • Solid understanding of API design, database technologies, and deployment pipelines.
  • Strong practical knowledge of distributed services and scalable architectures.
  • Knowledge of Linux fundamentals.
  • Good experience writing tests at all levels and producing clear documentation.

Desirable Skills and Experience

We welcome applicants with:

  • Experience deploying, running, and troubleshooting their own services.
  • Background in the games industry or online services.
  • Familiarity with game backend-as-a-service technologies (e.g., EOS, PlayFab).
  • Experience with cloud deployment services like AWS and containerization technology like Docker.
