SEN HLTA (Secondary) Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming secondary school in Ashington.

About the Role:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to provide tailored support to students with special educational needs. As a key member of the support team, you will work closely with teachers to adapt lessons for SEN students and help maintain a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to students with special educational needs.
  • Collaborate with the SENCO and teaching staff to deliver educational plans and adapt lessons for SEN students.
  • Lead small group interventions and 1:1 support sessions to help students achieve their potential.
  • Support students' personal and emotional development, and help maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to staff and parents.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a SEN HLTA or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN, including Autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A relevant HLTA qualification or equivalent experience is desirable.
  • A passion for working with young people and supporting their development.
  • Commitment to ensuring the well-being of all students.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
