Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom IDEXX Full time

We process thousands of clinical samples daily from Veterinary Clinics, running tests to help veterinarians diagnose issues with pets.

IDEXX reference laboratories form a global network united by a commitment to enhancing pet care. Our labs enable our customers to discover more through innovation, personalized support, and expertise, providing the most advanced diagnostic tests along with technology and tools.

As a Medical Laboratory Technician in our Microbiology department, you will work as part of a team testing samples of faeces and urine from small animals, mainly pet dogs and cats. Each sample you help move quickly and accurately means we are one step closer to identifying how or why they might be sick. Thanks to you, someone's beloved pet will get the treatment plan they need.

You might find similarities between human and veterinary clinical microbiology labs. We use the same media, process the same samples, and recover the same micro-organisms. We have the privilege of helping not just one species – last year we received specimens from over 70 different species and 20 different countries.

In This Role:
  • You will receive, prepare, and access veterinary samples for laboratory analysis and testing.
  • You will analyze and evaluate chemical and microscopic components of urine samples using automated instrumentation and manual techniques.
  • You will examine samples to identify parasites using faecal flotation and microscopic techniques.
  • You will process clinical samples for the identification of bacteria and fungi using automated and manual methods.
  • You will handle a workload including samples from livestock and exotic species through regular zoo screening.
  • You'll have autonomy in your work and full support when needed.
Salary Information:

$50,000 - $65,000 per year

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelors' degree in Biomedical Sciences / Microbiology or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Experience in a similar position or veterinary practice desired.
  • You will have practical experience in Urinalysis, Parasitology, and/or Microbiology.
  • You are comfortable performing automated instrumentation or manual methods.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
  • You can read, understand, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures.
  • You have a positive attitude and enjoy bringing energy into the lab every day.
  • You can prioritize tasks, multitask, and demonstrate excellent attention to detail.
  • You meet the physical requirements of working in a lab, including standing and sitting for extended periods, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability.
Benefits:

We offer a competitive benefits package, including 10% salary contribution to your pension, inclusion in bonus plan, life insurance, income protection insurance, eye care vouchers, access to employee assistance program, cycle to work scheme, yearly flu vaccinations, up to 16 hours paid volunteer time off per year, and private medical insurance.

At IDEXX, you will enrich your livelihoods with a positive and respectful work culture that embraces challenges and encourages learning and discovery.
