Advanced Innovative Engineering is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Test and Development engineer with specialized experience in engine testing and development to join our team in Lichfield. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and safety of our aerospace engine systems through rigorous testing and development processes.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret and translate customer and product requirements to system-level testing.
- Take ownership of development work packages for particular projects through all stages of the product lifecycle, from concept to production.
- Develop and maintain common processes and procedures relating to test and development engineering activities.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislative, regulatory, and contractual requirements based on recognized military/civil standards.
- Develop appropriate verification strategies to demonstrate system compliance with specifications, industry standards, and legislative demands.
- Perform root cause analysis to determine appropriate corrective action required when investigating product/equipment failures.
- Plan, execute, and monitor engineering development and qualification testing activities on IC engines.
- Prepare detailed development and qualification test reports.
- Prepare development and qualification test procedures that demonstrate verification of a design, in compliance with customer specification requirements.
- Develop and assemble prototype and engineering test units.
- Own and maintain engineering procedures related to engine development and test.
- Work to aerospace industry standards and specifications, as well as aircraft-specific requirements.
- Manage and maintain engineering test equipment, instrumentation, and facilities.
- Provide technical support to the production department, supporting production investigations, as well as supporting the specification, commissioning, and troubleshooting of production test equipment.
- Minimum experience of 5 years in a similar test and development role.
- HND or degree level in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
- Understanding of gasoline/diesel engines and sub-systems in a dynamic environment.
- Experience of dynamometer-based engine testing, instrumentation, and test facilities.
- Practical experience of building engine and ancillary systems.
- Practical experience of ECU mapping/calibration.
- Engine electrical knowledge, including sensory wiring and data comms.
- Experience of environmental test methods for design verification and working knowledge of design certification for land-based and airborne equipment.
- Strong diagnostic problem-solving skills.
- Practical experience with test instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
- Experience using 3D CAD software packages, including SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with RTCA/DO-160 and MIL-STD 810 standards.
- Good R&D, aerospace, and powertrain background.
- Strong practical skills with a willingness to engage in hands-on activities, including prototype and development testing.
- Proactiveness, initiative, and drive to work well independently and as part of an engineering team.
- Strong advocate for safety requirements and protocols.
- Keen observational skills, with good record-keeping, meticulousness, and attention to detail.
- Good technical English and report-writing skills.
- Good standard of professionalism, particularly in customer-facing scenarios.
- Team player with a 'can-do' attitude.
- Disciplined, with meticulous record-keeping and delivery of all activities in line with AIE processes and document retention policies.
- Comfortable in managing priorities in line with Project, Business, and Customer demand (deliver tasks to commitments).
- Eagerness to learn and adaptive in approach.
- A proven problem solver with a practical, pragmatic approach.
- PC competence, including use of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
Thirty-eight hours a week, Monday to Thursday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm (30-minute lunch), Friday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
21 days plus statutory bank holidays.
