Clinical Specialist in Adult Communication and Swallowing Disorders

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Whipps Cross University Hospital. The successful candidate will work as part of a dynamic team providing specialist assessment and treatment to adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders.
About the Role:
This is a band 6 position that requires the ability to work independently, assessing and managing patients with complex communication and swallowing difficulties. The ideal candidate will have experience working with adults with acquired disorders, a recognized Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification, and a licence to practice from the Health & Care Professions Council. Knowledge of national policies, procedures, and current research relevant to stroke, frailty, and adult neurology is essential.
Main Responsibilities:
The post holder will be responsible for conducting assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care. They will also be expected to supervise junior staff members and support student speech and language therapists on their placements. Regular supervision and training will be provided to ensure the successful applicant meets the requirements of the role.
Person Specification:
Essential qualifications include a recognized Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent, a licence to practice from the Health & Care Professions Council, and knowledge of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions relevant to acquired communication and swallowing disorders in adults. Desirable qualifications include registration with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate strengths in building rapport with key stakeholders within the SLT team and wider multidisciplinary team.
Salary: £32,000 - £43,041 per annum, depending on experience.
