Research Associate – University of Cambridge
We are seeking a talented Computational Applied Mathematician to join our team at MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention. This is an exciting opportunity to work on developing a fundamental understanding of transition and ensuing turbulent mixing in stratified shear flows.
The successful candidate will be based at the Department of Applied Mathematics & Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge and will collaborate closely with Professor Colm-cille Caulfield and Professor Rich Kerswell.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct numerical simulations and analyse the results using a range of approaches drawn from recent developments in applied mathematics
- Develop and conduct individual and collaborative research objectives
- Plan and manage research and administration with guidance if required
- Communicate technical material effectively
- Build internal and external contacts
- Assist in supervising student projects
- Develop student research skills
- Provide instruction or planning/delivering seminars relating to research area
Requirements
The successful candidate will have or be about to receive a PhD in mathematics, engineering or a closely related area. We welcome applications from women and/or candidates from a BME background, as they are currently under-represented at this level in our Department.
