About the Opportunity

Amentum is seeking a skilled Nuclear Data Specialist to join our cutting-edge development team for simulation of Radiation Transport and Reactor Physics. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining our state-of-the-art computational analysis codes and data libraries, as well as assisting with analysis work for a broad range of established and cutting-edge reactor designs, clinical treatments, and space shielding applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain nuclear data processing codes
  • Develop underpinning mathematical methods and data structures in our data libraries
  • Perform nuclear data validation for a range of radiation transport analysis cases
  • Deliver technical training courses to a specialist audience
  • Work as a team to develop the databases required for computational simulations
  • Present results at technical meetings and conferences (where appropriate)
  • Interface closely with the international academic research community
  • Generate new business through interaction with international commercial customers
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in mathematics, physics, or engineering, or any other subject with a strong mathematical component
  • Background in mathematical and physical theory and its implementation in nuclear data evaluation and processing
  • Programming skills in languages such as Fortran, Python, or Java
  • Ability to think innovatively and to solve complex problems and able to quickly and efficiently absorb new technical skills
  • Self-motivated, with a genuine passion for the field of nuclear/reactor physics
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
