The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of council-owned tree stock, providing expert advice to the Planning Department on tree-related issues, and developing a strategic approach to trees in North Devon.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain accurate records of council-owned tree stock, including tree health, condition, and location.
  • Provide expert advice to the Planning Department on tree-related issues, including TPO applications, conservation areas, and landscaping schemes.
  • Work closely with the Parks Team and Sustainability Officer to develop and implement a strategic approach to trees in North Devon, aligned with national, regional, and local agendas.
  • Collaborate with external partners to achieve environmental objectives and improve the local environment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including local communities, developers, and other interested parties.

Requirements:

  • Passion for the environment and positive management of trees.
  • Experience of working in a similar role with or for a local authority.
  • Excellent understanding of tree legislation, particularly in relation to the planning system.
  • Good health and ability to communicate positively with colleagues and members of the public.
