Job Description

As a Driver with the Royal Air Force, you will be responsible for operating a wide range of vehicles, including passenger carrying vehicles and large goods vehicles. Your primary role will be to transport personnel and equipment safely and efficiently, both within the UK and on international deployments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive and operate a variety of vehicles, including cars, minibuses, coaches, and large goods vehicles.
  • Transport personnel and equipment between units, using a range of vehicles and trailers.
  • Refuel aircraft using tankers and clear runways of snow and ice using specialist airfield support vehicles.
  • Transport freight with complex trailers and operate airfield support equipment, including aircraft tankers and snow and ice clearance vehicles.
Requirements:
  • Aged 17-47 years old (must attest before 48th birthday).
  • Citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, holder of dual UK/other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth (with 'right to work' immigration status).
  • Commit to minimum 3 years post Phase Two Training.
  • Have a provisional UK DVLA driving licence with no penalty points or driving bans.
  • Meet the fitness and health criteria.
Training and Development:

You will receive basic and specialist training in your field, including the Defence School of Transport at Leconfield in East Yorkshire. You will be trained to pass driving tests in Categories B, C, C+E, and D, and learn additional military driving skills, such as Vehicle Loading and Restraint, Off Road Driving, Skid Avoidance and Recovery Techniques, and the procedures and regulations for carrying dangerous goods by road (ADR).
