Job Introduction

A temporary opportunity is available for a Projects Team Manager based in Pontypridd for up to 12 months. The successful candidate will lead a multi-disciplinary team, creating a clear vision, setting clear expectations, and recognizing excellent performance.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage the 132kV asset base, including inspection, maintenance, and repair of GSPs, BSPs, and 132kV overhead and underground circuits.
  • Execute primary reinforcement and new connections works.
  • Build and maintain a safety culture, ensuring a safe working environment through site safety inspections and operational field checks.
  • Investigate, report, and take corrective action following accidents, injuries, damage to property, or near misses.
  • Ensure the team delivers a high level of customer service and achieves customer service-related performance targets.
  • Speak on behalf of the company and the team, both internally and externally, on issues related to the team's activities.
  • Successfully manage unit costs of work undertaken through efficient management of the workforce aligned to the work program.
  • Monitor tasks and expenditure to ensure work is undertaken within budget and in accordance with the annual program.
  • Approve and monitor individual capital schemes, identify and comment on variances, and take corrective action.
  • Approve expenditure within authority level.
  • Build a trusting team environment, where all are equally welcomed and valued.
  • Set a clear vision, lead, and manage change effectively.
  • Manage the annual asset replacement, reinforcement, and new connections works, liaising with primary network design, engineering design, wayleaves, and procurement to ensure execution of the program.
  • Manage network repairs and defects, ensuring effective prioritization to maximize system security.
  • Liaise with policy where required, ensuring defect management and follow-up for the asset base is optimized.
  • Set clear direction and expectations, ensuring team members clearly understand what needs to be done, why, when, and by whom.
  • Ensure shared ownership for teams' goals and objectives, and delivery in accordance with expectation.
  • Recognize excellent performance and celebrate success.
  • Continuously reflect on work undertaken and performance of the team to identify and implement improvements.
  • Proactively support colleagues' physical and mental health, through both a reactive response when situations occur, and proactively to support a healthy working environment.
  • Support the development of a diverse working environment within which colleagues are developed and their potential is maximized.
  • Ensure environmental targets are met during the execution of works by the team and contractors.
  • Manage framework contractors, ensuring that contracts are let and managed in accordance with the framework requirements, and work is completed to time, cost, and quality.
  • Ensure the team has the correct facilities, tools, equipment, and vehicles to undertake their work.

Ideal Candidate

  • A minimum City and Guilds Level 3 2339 or a relevant engineering or business management qualification.
  • Leadership capability aligned to the expectation of the role, including an ability to empower and lead through others.
  • A good understanding of the importance of building a positive work culture aligned to the future challenges of the business.
  • A good understanding of the changing electricity distribution operating environment and how that is reflected in leadership and the development of teams and their culture.
  • A good understanding of how a diverse workforce will contribute to the future success of the business.
  • Evidence of delivering results in accordance with or exceeding expectations.
  • The following requirements are required to remove designate status:
  • Engineering Level 4 qualification or relevant business management qualification.
  • IOSH or equivalent safety qualification.
  • Completion of a safeguarding course.
  • Mental resilience course.

Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
