The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Watch Commander to oversee the day-to-day operations of security at one of our facilities. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for youth and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise Assistant Watch Commanders to ensure effective security operations
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and Post Orders to maintain a secure environment
- Manage duty rosters and assess available personnel to ensure priority posts are covered
- Conduct daily inspections to detect potential security breaches and provide instructions to subordinate staff
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of daily activities to ensure schedules are maintained within specified timeframes
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Comprehensive knowledge of correctional security and administrative practices
- Considerable experience in planning, directing, and coordinating security staff
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively communicate orally and in writing
- Ability to implement security functions and coordinate with multi-disciplinary team members
- Skilled in conflict resolution and crisis intervention
Progressively responsible corrections or law enforcement experience, including supervisory experience, is highly desirable.
