Norfolk State University seeks a highly qualified Academic Leader to join our faculty as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Political Science.

**Job Summary:**

We are looking for a dedicated educator and researcher who can teach undergraduate courses in American government, develop new instructional materials, and engage in research/scholarship. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching, scholarly activity, and service.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Teach undergraduate courses in American government, including introductory courses and specialized topics;
  • Develop new instructional materials, techniques, course offerings, or major revisions of existing courses;
  • Engage in research/scholarship and grantsmanship, with a focus on publishing high-quality research and securing external funding;
  • Actively participate in departmental and university-wide service activities, including committee work, advising students, and contributing to the development of new programs and initiatives;
  • Administer internship programs and provide guidance to students in their academic and professional pursuits;

**Requirements:**

  • Ph.D. in American Politics or a related field at the time of employment;
  • Experience and/or evidence of teaching and scholarly activity in one or more of the areas highlighted in the Job Description;
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a demonstrated ability to create an inclusive learning environment;

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  • Experience in curriculum development, preferably in Environmental Justice and/or Civic Engagement;
  • Experience in grantsmanship and research that is commensurate with employment at the rank of assistant or associate professor;
  • Demonstrated experience in student advisement and mentoring;
  • Experience administering internships and guiding students in their academic and professional pursuits;
  • Experience in online teaching, preferably using Blackboard;
  • Ability to teach a capstone course and contribute to the development of new programs and initiatives;

**Compensation and Benefits:**

The salary range for this position is estimated to be around $80,000-$110,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
