Senior Clinical Scientist

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Senior Clinical Scientists to join our Biochemistry team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidates will be responsible for providing high-quality analyses and contributing to the development, growth, and optimization of our specialist testing service.
The team at UHB currently consists of experienced professionals, including Consultant Clinical Scientists, Principal Clinical Scientists, and Senior Clinical Scientists.
Main Responsibilities:- Provide high-quality analyses and contribute to the development of our specialist testing service.
- Liaise closely with the Operations Manager and Principal Clinical Scientist to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Contribute to the clinical support activities of the department by participating in the duty biochemist rota.
- Develop, grow, and optimize the service, including the use of various techniques such as chromatography, mass spectrometry, and FT-IR spectroscopy.
- 1st class or 2:1 honours degree in biochemistry, chemistry, or a closely related science.
- MSc in Clinical Biochemistry or working towards.
- PhD in a relevant area of science.
- State registration with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Specialist knowledge of clinical biochemistry and laboratory medicine.
- Awareness of the political and cultural aspects of the NHS.
- Awareness of clinical governance and risk management.
- Awareness of laboratory health and safety.
- Awareness and experience of laboratory accreditation standards.
- Experience in audit, research, and development, method/equipment appraisal, and evaluation.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and discipline-specific proficiency for maintenance of HCPC registration.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
- Numerate and able to undertake scientific calculations.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Manage workload effectively when the workload is unpredictable and there are competing demands.
- Good and accurate keyboard skills.
- Effective logical thought processes and the ability to solve problems and plan remedial action.
- Effective organisational, planning, and time management skills.
- Punctual and reliable.
- A good team player.
- Respectful of all grades of staff.
- Ability to work across all sites.
