Senior Ecologist - Environmental Consultant

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our team in Wakefield. As a key member of our environmental consultancy, you will be responsible for coordinating and undertaking protected species surveys and mitigation projects, advising clients on constraints and survey requirements, and report writing.

With a focus on regional site work and/or working with client project teams, this role will provide you with an opportunity to build on your existing experience, leading and delivering on a range of projects. You will have the opportunity to mentor colleagues, ensure the production of high-quality reports, and engage with clients and their design teams to deliver high-quality sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and undertaking protected species surveys and mitigation projects
  • Advising clients on constraints and survey requirements
  • Report writing
  • Mentoring colleagues and ensuring the production of high-quality reports
  • Engaging with clients and their design teams to deliver high-quality sustainable solutions

Requirements:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Ecology or a related subject
  • A minimum of 4 years' relevant work experience
  • Understanding and experience in the application of UK environmental legislation and policy
  • Experience in ecological field survey work (including to UKHab and protected species)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of, and familiarity with, survey guidance for a range of protected species
  • Experience in report writing (including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, management plans, and Ecological Impact Assessments)
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), or equivalent professional body with a professional code of conduct
  • At least one Natural England (or other equivalent) protected species licence, preferably Bat Survey Level 2 (or above)
