PhD Researcher in Artificial Intelligence and Long-Read Sequencing for Malaria Parasites

Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

**Research Opportunity at the University of Cambridge**

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the University of Cambridge, Department of Pathology, to investigate genome replication in malaria parasites using artificial intelligence and long-read sequencing.

Malaria parasites replicate their genomes differently to human cells, making genome replication an attractive therapeutic target for antimalarial drugs. The purpose of this research is to develop artificial intelligence software that leverages the power of long-read DNA sequencing to determine the genomic loci of DNA damage caused by these drugs and how this damage changes the movement of replication forks throughout the genome.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Develop artificial intelligence software for genome replication analysis
  • Work with long-read DNA sequencing data to identify genomic loci of DNA damage
  • Contribute to a supportive and collaborative research environment

**Requirements:**

  • Equivalent of a UK 2.1 or higher in an undergraduate honours or Masters degree in a relevant subject
  • Eligibility for the Home rate of University fees

**Funding:**

The studentship will cover the student's stipend at the current Research Council rate and University Fees. The studentship is open to those eligible for the Home rate of University fees.

**Equality, Diversity and Inclusion:**

The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.
