Machine Shop Production Manager

Birmingham-based company Pertemps Birmingham Industrial is seeking a highly skilled Machine Shop Production Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our machine shop. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, operational management, and problem-solving to ensure the machine shop meets its performance targets and supports the company's overall strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement manufacturing strategies and action plans to align the machine shop with business objectives.
  2. Plan and manage daily production in line with the order book and future projects, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing downtime.
  3. Conduct performance appraisals, identify training needs, and work with the Production Manager to develop a multi-skilled, flexible, and motivated team.
  4. Collaborate with designers and customers to provide input on both new developments and existing products, ensuring high-quality products that meet customer satisfaction and standards.
  5. Program and offline program using CADCAM software, ensuring accurate and efficient production.
  6. Set up and operate CNC machines as required, maintaining a high level of productivity and quality.
  7. Maintain clear communication with customers and stakeholders at all levels, ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues.
  8. Ensure accurate stock management and booking of materials to specific jobs, minimizing waste and optimizing production.
  9. Collaborate with other manufacturing teams to maintain product quality and meet standards, ensuring a cohesive and efficient production process.
  10. Attend and contribute to monthly management meetings, providing updates on production performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  11. Lead team planning sessions and manage production workload, ensuring effective resource allocation and minimizing downtime.
  12. Ensure production documentation is logged and updated, maintaining accurate records of production activities.
  13. Implement lean manufacturing practices to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve productivity.
  14. Monitor daily performance targets, including quality and productivity metrics, and take corrective action as necessary.
  15. Ensure compliance with safety, process, procedures, and quality assurance standards, maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
Requirements:
  1. Proven experience managing or supervising in a CNC machine shop environment, with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and procedures.
  2. Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan ahead and work systematically, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing downtime.
  3. Adaptable to change and able to manage pressure effectively, with a focus on delivering high-quality products that meet customer satisfaction and standards.
  4. Experience with CADCAM software and CNC machine operations, with a strong understanding of programming and offline programming.
