Job Summary

Château de Mercuès is seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Specialist to join our Estates Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the hotel and lodge infrastructure is well-maintained and in excellent condition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake repairs to hotel and lodge infrastructure, including door handles, door locks, light fixtures, and decking boards.
  • Repair electrical items, such as changing light bulbs and replacing sockets.
  • Repair plumbing jobs, including taps, washers, and hot tub systems.
  • Construct and maintain walls, fences, gates, hedges, paths, drives, patios, and surfaces.
  • Respond to maintenance issues in a timely manner and record actions on the system.
  • Ensure stock levels are appropriate and replenished as necessary.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good condition and report defects promptly.
  • Escalate maintenance issues to the appropriate person when necessary.
  • Assist with projects and planned work on the estate where required.
  • Take responsibility for own health and safety and that of others, including guests.
  • Take pride in completing jobs to a consistently high standard.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, organized, and safe working environment at all times.
  • Be presentable at all times in clean, pressed uniform (if applicable), with long hair tied back, and attention to personal hygiene is essential.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar level of establishment is preferred.
  • Previous maintenance and estate experience is essential.
  • Relevant qualifications in a trade are desirable but not essential.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with other teams on site.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as per the demands of the business, and adaptability to rota changes.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, helping other team members to complete tasks.
  • The ability to adapt to any request and deal with it in a timely and efficient manner, preferably with a smile.
  • Ability to work in a busy environment and under pressure.
  • Ability to work under own initiative.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong sense of need for achievement of goals and success.
  • High level of motivation, determination, and commitment.
  • To undertake additional or other duties or work as necessary to meet the needs of the business.
  • Good health and a general level of fitness is an essential part of this role.
  • Ability to respond to urgent issues in a helpful and calm manner, prioritizing guest and staff welfare in the case of an emergency.
  • Can act as a First Aid Aider or Fire Warden in the event of an accident or emergency.

To succeed in this role, you should be physically fit and able to manage small and heavy machinery. You'll also be experienced in, or happy to learn, the management of livestock as you'll be responsible for our herd of Alpacas and Llamas.
