We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Hydrologist to join our team at Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales. As a key member of our Hydrology and Water Resources team, you will play a crucial role in delivering a range of river restoration projects across South Wales.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical support to internal and external customers, including the development of comprehensive reports and presentations.
- Investigate and respond to licence applications, providing technical advice and guidance to the CNC, authorities, developers, and internal teams in accordance with current CNC policy.
- Advise on compliance with the Water Framework Directive and other relevant legislation.
- Work as a technical advisor on river restoration, bioengineering, and flood risk management projects.
- Provide technical input to flood risk management plans, licensing, enforcement, and sustainable abstraction projects.
- Provide technical input to the development of geomorphological best practices, focusing on their role in sustainable natural resource management.
- Provide technical support to CNC colleagues on complex geomorphological matters.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of successful emergency response plans, including flood and drought management.
- Support best practice in health and safety by promoting proactive awareness and ensuring that work practices are safe and compliant with Environment Agency standards.
- Participate in incident response activities.
- Take on health and safety responsibilities and accountabilities relevant to the role.
- Commit to Natural Resources Wales' commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Be committed to your own professional development through effective use of your Personal Development Plan (PDP).
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the role.
- Participate in incident response activities.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Geotechnical Hydrologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. physical geography, environmental science, or civil engineering), with a proven track record of delivering high-quality technical advice and guidance.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the Water Framework Directive and its implementation, as well as experience in working with complex geomorphological data and software. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including internal teams, external customers, and partners.
The role requires a strong commitment to professional development, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and approaches. The successful candidate will also be required to work flexibly, with occasional travel to sites across South Wales.
