Job Summary
The Automation Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safe and consistent operation of automated show elements. This includes maintaining and repairing automation equipment, operating automation consoles and systems during performances, and supporting the wider production departments in technical and production aspects of the show.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance and Repair
- Support the Automation Department in ensuring all automation equipment is cleaned, maintained, and in good working order.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on automation equipment to prevent downtime and ensure optimal performance.
- Automation Operations
- Operate automation consoles and systems during maintenance periods and rehearsals, as well as during shows on rotation.
- Ensure that all automated show elements are prepared and maintained in a safe and consistent manner.
- Technical Support
- Support the wider production departments in any and all technical and production aspects of ABBA Voyage at the ABBA Arena.
- Assist with the running of the production, covering show tracks, maintenance, daily and weekly inspections, and safety checks.
- Administrative Tasks
- Update and keep maintenance and inspections records, as directed.
- Carry out all necessary administrative work associated with job requirements, including keeping accurate and timely records of all work and tasks.
- Training and Development
- Undertake safety, health, and technical training as required.
- Report any OH&S hazards or concerns immediately.
Requirements
- A minimum of two years' experience in large-scale technical entertainment or similar, and interest or experience in engineering, robotics, or control systems.
- A proven track record of taking responsibility for controlling and maintaining automated machinery that can cause harm to others if maintained and operated incorrectly.
- Working knowledge of current and relevant Health and Safety practices.
- Able to prioritize, multi-task, and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail, maintaining a positive attitude in fast-paced environments.
- Comfortable working under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Take a calm and practical approach to technical troubleshooting.
- Ability to work at height, operate MEWPs, and to climb using fall arrest systems.
- Confident working with hand and power tools.
- Strong all-round technical background, including lighting, audio, and video.
- Proficient with IT software, including Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
Desirable Skills
- Strong working knowledge of show automation systems, including console operation and programming, axis testing, drive repair, etc.
- Experience in stage management roles.
- Rigging experience, including familiarity with fall protection systems.
- Welding certification.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Formal fall protection and rope access training.
- First Aid at Work.
- IPAF 3A, 3B, and 1B certification.
