The University of Bristol is seeking a visionary leader to spearhead its research and innovation strategy, driving the institution's reputation and impact as one of the world's top 50 research-intensive universities.

This critical role will oversee the development and implementation of strategic plans to enhance research quality, outcomes, and partnerships, aligning with UK and global societal goals. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading initiatives to scale, innovate, and improve research quality and outcomes, fostering collaboration across faculties and promoting shared goals.
  • Overseeing the activities of the Research, Enterprise, and Innovation Division, creating impactful programs and partnerships that drive sustainable growth and knowledge exchange.
  • Representing the university externally to stakeholders and policymakers, championing research impact nationally and internationally.
  • Guiding strategic development and financial planning, ensuring effective resource management to maximize outcomes.

To succeed in this role, candidates must possess:

  • A professional qualification or relevant degree with extensive senior experience in research, innovation, or enterprise leadership.
  • Expertise in managing complex operations within higher education research environments.
  • Proven people and change management skills, with a talent for motivating and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong strategic thinking abilities, with a track record of developing and implementing impactful initiatives.
  • Financial acumen and experience managing significant budgets to support strategic goals.
  • Insight into national and international research landscapes and trends, with a vision for leveraging these for institutional success.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, enabling effective relationships with senior leaders, policymakers, and other key stakeholders.
