Job Title: Department Head - Mechanical

At H&T, we are seeking an experienced Department Head - Mechanical to lead our Mechanical Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and inspiring a diverse team of operators, ensuring they are motivated, well-trained, and empowered to perform their roles effectively and efficiently.

The successful candidate will create and maintain a culture of trust and transparency, while adhering to operational processes, compliance, and regulatory requirements. They will proactively make plans and measure the effectiveness of their team in achieving business targets and financial goals, ensuring control processes and success indicators are achieved.

The Department Head - Mechanical will work with both internal and external stakeholders, maintaining business relationships and contractual processes to ensure business objectives are met. They will be responsible for coaching, developing, and motivating Managers to achieve personal and operational goals, enhancing and refining their managerial and leadership competence in support of their respective teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership: Coach, develop, and motivate Managers to achieve personal and operational goals, enhancing and refining their managerial and leadership competence in support of their respective teams.
  2. People Planning: Create and maintain a comprehensive people plan and be responsible for delivering the talent and development strategy, preserving a robust talent pipeline.
  3. Operational Compliance: Lead by example and set high expectations within the Mechanical Department teams and across the wider business, collaborating with required departments to ensure and embed that all financial and non-financial regulatory requirements are met.
  4. Operational Management: Deliver and maintain operational excellence, ensuring adherence to all operational requirements, and ensuring that the financial plans and business objectives are supported by effective operational processes within a governance framework.
  5. Commercial and Performance: Focus on quantitative and qualitative data to plan effectively and prioritise opportunities, specifically with regards to stock management requirements, ensuring stock and audit accuracy.
  6. Collaboration and Teamwork: Make an active, supportive contribution across the Mechanical Department, cultivating a strong team ethic across the department and amongst teams to maximise resource and talent effectiveness.
  7. Communication: Use excellent communication skills to collaborate with all teams, internally and externally to the Mechanical Department, developing relationships and solutions at varying levels across the business.
Essential Requirements:
  1. Proven experience of managing people and teams.
  2. Excellent organisation and leadership skills.
  3. Knowledge of performance evaluation metrics and principles.
  4. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills.
  5. Sound understanding of optimisation of operations and standards of success.
  6. Adaptable to change with a track record of planning and delivery of change/process change/project changes.
  7. Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  8. Strong business acumen.
Desirable Requirements:
  1. Jewellery and/or Retail experience.
  2. Previous experience in manufacturing and large teams.
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office/computer literacy.
