Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Officer to join our team at Sentinel Marine Ltd. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of our vessels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assume command of the vessel in the absence of the appointed Master, ensuring seamless continuity of operations.
  • Supervise and manage the deck department, ensuring all personnel are medically fit, competent, and qualified to international standards.
  • Conduct safety and vessel familiarization training for new personnel, ensuring they are fully aware of the vessel's systems and procedures.
  • Manage cargo calculations, including ullages, deadweight scale, and equipment on board, to determine trim and stability in port and while handling cargo.
  • Supervise loading, unloading, and ballasting operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company procedures.
  • Stand navigation, port, and anchor watches as per agreed watch rotation, maintaining situational awareness and ensuring the vessel's safety.
  • Manage and update the Planned Maintenance System, ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and serviced.
  • Conduct regular inventory of equipment on board, compiling a maintenance plan to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain a defects register and prepare requisitions for spares required, ensuring timely replacement and minimizing downtime.
  • Assist the Ships Master with performance appraisals of deck ratings, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Prepare a handover report for the relieving Chief Officer, ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities.
  • Implement measures to prevent and reduce pollution to the environment, adhering to company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as the designated Safety Officer on board, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company procedures.
  • Monitor inspection of safety equipment, ensuring all records are up-to-date and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience as a Chief Officer or equivalent role on a similar vessel.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and company procedures, with the ability to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with a strong focus on safety and customer satisfaction.
