Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate autonomy and independence in decision-making, working in partnership with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Exhibit strong leadership, acting as a role model for the midwifery team and ensuring evidence-based care delivery.
  • Support staff education and development, working in collaboration with the matron to define standards of care and practice.
  • Manage and coordinate a ward or department team, providing professional leadership and responsibility for ensuring an environment of empowerment.

Essential
  • A woman-centred approach to care
  • Demonstrate expertise in safeguarding and midwifery practices within the maternity service
  • Safeguarding experience in clinical practice
  • Evidence of relevant clinical updating, including midwifery mandatory skills and drills
  • Involvement in clinical audit and research
Qualifications & Training
Essential
  • NMC Registered Midwife
  • Up-to-date professional portfolio demonstrating ongoing professional development
  • Degree in midwifery

  • Able to perform the full range of midwifery skills
  • Effective organisational, time management, and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to practice in all clinical areas according to NMC rules and standards
