About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Critical Care Consultant to join our team at Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will have experience in Critical Care Medicine or Anaesthesia and a passion for delivering high-quality patient care.

The role offers flexibility with the option to apply for 1-4 sessions on a fixed-term contract basis for up to 3 years. As a critical care consultant, you will be responsible for providing clinical advice and support on critical care transfer planning across London. You will also support training and education activities by completing requested workplace-based assessments (WPBAs) as requested by trainees.

Our operations are carried out in collaboration with the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS), the London integrated commissioning boards, and associated critical care networks to provide a transfer service for critically ill patients throughout London 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To be successful in this role, you must have a medical degree, full GMC registration, and specialist register entry in a relevant specialty. Postgraduate professional qualifications, formal training, or postgraduate qualifications in leadership and/or management, pre-hospital care, or retrieval medicine are desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical advice and support on critical care transfer planning across London.
  • Support training and education activity by completion of requested workplace-based assessments (WPBAs).
  • Daily safety-netting: Review the previous shift's transfer PRFs, flagging any concerns and recording whether cases suitable for case analysis at a governance day using the referral tags 'interest and learning' or 'governance concerns.'
  • Complete documentation relating to the above in line with service clinical governance framework.
