Job Opportunity: Planetary Networks of the Artificial Intelligence Systems

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced researcher to lead Work Package 2 'Labour Market Impacts' as part of the UKRI-funded project 'Planetary Networks of the Artificial Intelligence Systems'. The successful candidate will conduct ethnographic fieldwork in Colombia, Kenya, Uganda, and India to better understand the working conditions and decent work implications of AI training activities in the Majority World.

This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) with the possibility of hybrid working arrangements. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant social science, with training or skills relevant to the project, and a proven track record of conducting grounded fieldwork in the specified countries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Work Package 2 'Labour Market Impacts' and conduct ethnographic fieldwork in Colombia, Kenya, Uganda, and India.
  • Conduct surveys, in-depth interviews, and participant observation to gather data on working conditions and decent work implications of AI training activities.
  • Travel internationally for ethnographic fieldwork and collaborate with the project team to analyze and disseminate findings.

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant social science, with training or skills relevant to the project.
  • Proven track record of conducting grounded fieldwork in Colombia, Kenya, Uganda, and India.
  • Ability to travel internationally and collaborate with the project team.
