Job Title: Band 6/7 Team Lead Occupational Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team as the Band 6/7 Team Lead Occupational Therapist for our Medicine department. This is a full-time, permanent role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical and operational leadership to the Medicine teams, providing highly specialized assessment and treatment of patients within medical specialties, and being responsible for daily operational activities and planning, evaluation, and development of the Medicine and Care of the Elderly team.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience at Band 6 level, including recent acute, physical Occupational Therapy, and experience in care of the elderly or general medicine. They will also have post-graduate experience in neurology, respiratory, and infectious diseases, and previous NHS experience as an Occupational Therapist.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic and holistic occupational therapist who has appropriate clinical experience at Band 6 level within an NHS acute setting, enabling them to provide decisive and effective therapy input. High-level communication and leadership skills and a flexible approach when working under pressure are essential for this role.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical and operational leadership to the Medicine teams
  • Provide highly specialized assessment and treatment of patients within medical specialties
  • Be responsible for daily operational activities and planning, evaluation, and development of the Medicine and Care of the Elderly team
  • Provide expert advice, guidance, and information to other health and social care professionals, carers, and relatives
  • Work with the Clinical Leads and Head of Therapies to implement department, directorate, and trust objectives
  • Develop and promote the role of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Support Staff within the specialty
  • Be responsible for induction, training supervision, and appraisal of junior staff, students, and support staff on rotation in the Team
  • Build excellent working relationships with the wider MDT (including Ward Managers, Matrons, General Managers, and Medical Teams)
Requirements:
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • State Registered Occupational Therapist (HCPC)
  • Evidence of relevant post-qualification study at postgraduate level or equivalent knowledge
  • Good written and spoken English
  • MSc or Diploma relating to aspects of Occupational Therapy Practice
Experience:
  • Significant experience at Band 6 level, including recent acute, physical Occupational Therapy
  • Experience in care of the elderly or general medicine
  • Post-graduate experience in neurology, respiratory, and infectious diseases
  • Previous NHS experience as an Occupational Therapist

  • Competent in use of IT programmes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail, and databases

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, MDT members, and other agencies in person, over the phone, and in writing
  • Previous experience of formal presentations to MDT groups
  • Experience of close working relationships with higher education institutions
Personal and People Development:
  • Experience of supervision and appraisal
  • Experience leading a small team
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to qualified and non-qualified staff members
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to recognise work-related stress and pressures in yourself and others and offer support in managing it
