Job Summary

The Senior Emergency Practitioner will be a registered healthcare professional from a nursing, paramedic, or physiotherapy background, with experience and skills in minor injuries and illnesses. They will hold the capability to use patient group directives and may be a prescriber.

Main Responsibilities

The Senior Emergency Practitioner will be responsible for assisting with service delivery within the Emergency Department and Medical division, working as an autonomous practitioner to patients with minor injuries and illnesses. They will assess, investigate, treat, and either refer or discharge patients, using electronic patient records and interpreting investigations such as X-Rays and pathology results.

Key Duties
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner in urgent and unscheduled care, directing and delivering a patient-focused service within Gloucester and Cheltenham EDs and the 'Nurse Led Service' at Cheltenham General Hospital at night.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgment, and decision-making in clinical care to independently provide a high standard of care for patients of all ages presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed unscheduled care needs.
  • Act as the clinical lead professional to organize and manage the care of patients with minor injuries and illnesses, supporting junior staff in the department with decision-making and taking accountability and providing clinical leadership to Cheltenham ED overnight.
