Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to join our team at Connectment. As a key member of our Highway Design team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality designs within budget and programme.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Delivery: Ensure that designs are delivered on time and within budget, meeting the requirements of our clients and stakeholders.
  • Team Management: Manage and lead a team of design engineers, providing guidance and support to ensure that they are fully utilised and working on high-priority tasks.
  • Project Management: Work closely with our Senior Management Team to manage projects from other offices and disciplines, ensuring that they are delivered to the required standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all designs are prepared in accordance with relevant authorities and statutory bodies, and that all necessary approvals are obtained.
  • Quality Assurance: Undertake and check design information and reports, providing effective feedback to ensure that high-quality designs are delivered.
  • Technical Expertise: Ensure that all designs are prepared in accordance with MCHWDMRB and/or local design guidance, and that you have a robust working knowledge of highways technical documents within the DMRB.
  • Continuous Improvement: Encourage innovation and continuous improvement within the team, displaying sound independent judgment and a proactive approach to risk management.
Requirements
  • Experience: Experience of working on Section 278 and Section 38 highway design projects, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality designs within budget and programme.
  • Management Skills: Proactive management skills with confidence to manage teams in accordance with a growing and varied workload.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical skills and experience in a range of highway design environments, with a working knowledge of highways technical documents within the DMRB.
  • Project Management: Proven project management of highway projects and delivery to programme and budget.
  • Leadership: Display sound independent judgment, with experience of developing, mentoring and supervising Highway Design staff.
  • Technical Knowledge: Robust working knowledge of highways technical documents within the DMRB, with experience managing the development of contract documents in accordance with relevant highway contracts.
  • Software Skills: Experience in highway drainage design and use of MicroDrainage software, with a working knowledge of the Civils 3D CAD package.
Desirable Requirements
  • Cost Estimation: Experience in the provision of cost estimates.
  • Professional Membership: Member of a relevant Charted Institute.
  • Driving License: Hold a valid UK driving license.
