Position Overview

In the role of Lead Quantity Surveyor, you will report directly to the Commercial Manager and be instrumental in overseeing the financial and contractual dimensions of projects within our built environment sector. You will guide a team of quantity surveyors to ensure that projects are executed efficiently, adhering to budgetary constraints and contractual commitments while managing financial planning, forecasting, and reconciliations.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight and Reporting:

Supervise all commercial operations from the point of contract award through to final account settlement, ensuring financial integrity and compliance.

Develop and manage project budgets, collaborating closely with your team to uphold financial discipline.

Assist in cost planning and management, including benchmarking and performance evaluation, to foster ongoing enhancements.

Evaluate cost performance metrics for monthly reporting and pinpoint opportunities for improving cost efficiency.

Change Control Management:

Oversee budget modifications and manage the change control process, ensuring precise financial tracking.

Conduct financial assessments for any alterations and ensure their effective implementation.

Review updated drawings to identify modifications and perform measurements in accordance with contract stipulations.

Procurement Collaboration:

Partner with the Procurement Team to devise and execute procurement strategies that meet project requirements.

Administer the procurement and management of subcontracts and specialized supplies, ensuring timely and accurate payments.

Authorize subcontract orders, ensuring compliance with project specifications and budgetary limits.

Subcontract and Special Supplies Management:

Negotiate financial implications with suppliers for compensation events, ensuring alignment with project objectives.

Monitor economic indicators such as inflation and currency shifts, adjusting project forecasts as necessary.

Authorize payment certificates for subcontractors, ensuring precision and adherence to financial protocols.

Contractual Adherence, Quality Assurance, and Risk Management:

Ensure corporate governance is upheld across all projects, minimizing commercial risks.

Identify potential financial risks and provide guidance on strategies to mitigate them, keeping the project team informed.

Deliver accurate monthly contract evaluations and collaborate with the Project Manager to meet project performance benchmarks.

Team Leadership and Development:

Lead and mentor a team of Quantity Surveyors, including Assistant, Trainee, and Graduate Surveyors.

Ensure your team effectively manages commercial budgets and contributes to the overall success of projects.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in civil engineering subcontracting, particularly on large-scale initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of contractual obligations and experience managing diverse contract values.
  • Ideally degree-qualified, though relevant project experience with HNC/HND qualifications will also be considered.
  • Proven capability to manage complex, high-value contracts within the London market.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all relevant contract forms and their applications.
