Instrument Technician Job Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Instrument Technician to join our team at Brinsworth Strip Mills. As an Instrument Technician, you will be responsible for undertaking both reactive and preventative maintenance to a wide range of combustion/instrumentation/control systems in a modern steel production facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake maintenance and repairs to instrumentation and control systems
  • Develop and implement solutions to faults and issues
  • Monitor performance and predict failures to improve safety, production output, and plant reliability
  • Assist in the efficient planning and running of the process control function
Requirements:
  • Hold a recognised Electrical / Instrumentation apprenticeship (HNC/ONC level or equivalent)
  • Previous Instrumentation / Control / Electrical experience of industrial systems
  • Experience of furnace combustion systems, air/gas ratio control, PID control for burner systems, and thermocouples
  • Experience of a wide range of measurement and instrumentation methods and equipment
  • Calibration of instrumentation
  • Experience of electronics including fault finding and repair to component level
  • Experience of PC-based systems and their associated communications
  • Experience of CCTV and audio communications systems
  • A knowledge of PLC and SCADA-based systems predominantly related to fault finding
  • Good level of problem-solving awareness
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and work with technical data
  • A good understanding and knowledge of Health Safety Legislation with experience of adhering to SWP's, risk assessments, procedures, and permit systems
  • Experience of written reporting for detailing activities, plant maintenance, and reliability
  • Experience of planning of work schedules and reporting of daily/weekly jobs
  • Previous use of a variety of computerised maintenance management systems and other computerised tools that are regularly used in a busy Engineering function
  • Competence in 16th/17th Edition I.E.T. Wiring Regulations
  • Experience of working in confined spaces and at heights

This role is a Monday to Friday position with a mixture of afternoons, mornings, and nights. Average shift is 8 hours.
