About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Hardware Engineer to lead the development, design, and introduction of control centre products into the UK market. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of control centre hardware products, as well as the development and improvement of control centre tools and processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of control centre hardware products, ensuring they meet the required specifications and standards.
  • Develop and improve control centre tools and processes, ensuring they are efficient and effective.
  • Manage product obsolescence, ensuring that products remain fit for purpose and enable continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Design and develop hardware products, including component, PCB, and enclosure design.
Requirements
  • Degree or equivalent experience in an electronics or electrical engineering discipline.
  • C&G Requirements for Electrical Installations (16th or 17th edition).
  • IPC Advanced Designer Certification.
  • Analogue and digital circuit design experience, including COM carrier board design.
  • PCB design and layout experience, preferably with Altium.
  • Proficient in designing for EMC compliance with sound knowledge of EMC testing.
  • Able to build, specify, and deploy PC-based solutions, including OS deployment and configuration.
  • Able to produce product V&V test specifications and perform testing.
Desirable Skills
  • Digital hardware and firmware experience.
  • FPGA and CPLD experience.
  • RTOS experience.
  • Housekeeping with Intel processors.
  • Carrier boards for SoM and CoM experience.
  • Bus translation, PCIe to local buses experience.
  • Serial and parallel buses experience.
  • Communications protocols experience.
  • UARTs, USB, SPI, I2C experience.
  • Working to process experience.
  • Working from and creating requirements/test specifications experience.
  • Development plans experience.
  • Design and code reviews experience.
  • Configuration/version control experience.
  • Design analysis – timing diagrams experience.
  • Memory technologies experience.
  • Spartan and Virtex FPGA families or similar experience.
  • Ability to read schematics/datasheets.
  • BSPs experience.
  • PCB design/specification experience.
  • Knowledge of embedded software and operating systems.
  • Setting up test environments.
  • Set-up and configuration of development tools.
  • V&V experience.
  • Characterisation of HW experience.
  • Obsolescence management experience.
