Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Diploma in Health & Social Care (NVQ Level 2) or a similar qualification (or willing to complete within 18 months of appointment)
  • Experience of supporting or caring for others, especially those with a learning disability, either from family, employment or voluntary work
  • Experience of working within a team as well as working independently
  • Able to communicate effectively with people, including people using services, their families and colleagues
  • Knowledge of the needs and rights of people with learning disabilities and an understanding of the issues people may face
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills to enable competent and accurate recording and reporting, plus management of personal finances
  • Willingness to support service users with domestic tasks, such as cooking, cleaning and shopping
  • Committed to the concept of supporting people – maximising employment, training, community and leisure opportunities
